Estimates can be wrong

The calculators are built carefully and checked against primary sources, as described on the methodology page. They can still be wrong, for ordinary reasons:

• Tax law changes, sometimes retroactively, and a figure here may be out of date.
• A calculator only knows what you type. Real returns turn on details a short form does not ask about.
• Each calculator deliberately leaves things out. Those exclusions are listed in the methodology.
• Software has bugs, including this software.

Do not file, elect or commit money based only on a number from this site. Treat any result as a starting point for a conversation with someone qualified.

A commission never changes a calculation. The arithmetic runs identically whether or not a link on the page pays. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no input into calculator results or the content of any page.
